Artie Mae Russell, 88, passed away on August 14, 2022, in Corpus Christi, TX. She was born on July 11, 1934, in Elgin, TX to the late Charles S. Correll and the late Callie M. Correll (Reitbauer). Always known as Mae, she spent her early childhood in Elgin, later moving with the family to Buda, TX. In 1949, a close family friend introduced her to young Clarence Russell. A year later, Clarence proposed just before he left to be stationed in Germany. Young & in love, Mae waited for two years until Clarence returned and they were married in August 1952. They started their married life in San Antonio, where Margaret Ann was born. They soon moved to Corpus Christi for a new job and of course – fishing! Soon, Debra Lynn was born, and many happy years were ahead.
She enjoyed the simple things in life and spending time with her family. There are fond memories of camping trips, Sunday afternoon drives, sewing/quilting, and holiday parties with friends playing games like Forty-two, Hearts, and the Marble Board game. Cake and coffee would always be ready when her lady friends stopped in for a visit. In 2003, Mae wrote in her journal “Clarence and I have been married for 51 years. Valleys and mountains, ups and downs. The Lord always takes care of us.” In 2014, after 62 years of marriage, her beloved Clarence passed away.
Mae had one brother, the late Floyd S. Correll, who died in 2004. She is survived by half-sister, Wanda S. Reitbauer of San Antonio. She is also survived by daughter Margaret Ann Devine (John Devine) of Pipe Creek, TX, and daughter Debra Lynn Obenshain of Corpus Christi, TX, and survived by her pride and joy grandchildren Brandon Obenshain (Katie), Tyner Devine, Brynn Devine, Kyra Devine (Joseph Chalupsky), step-grandchildren Ashten Stewart, Bradley Smith, Caleb Smith, and Kenady Keuper. Also, many numerous nieces and nephews who were close to her heart.
