Following his discharge he started working for the U.S Postal Service in Laredo. He decided to move to Corpus Christi to further his career with the post office. On April 1, 2005 after 38 years of service he retired.
He had a passion for working on his classic cars mainly his 1968 Camaro and 1984 Corvette. He loved working on the Camaro more because he was able to rebuild it with his son.
His main passion was his family. Any opportunity he got, he traveled to visit his son and granddaughters. He was extremely proud of his son and his commitment to the Marine Corp and his family. Most importantly he was proud of the father his son has become to his precious granddaughters.
He is preceded in death by his Dad Carlos, Mom Maria, brother Carlos and his two sisters Maria and Josephina.
He is survived by his son Arturo Gutierrez Jr (Melissa), 3 granddaughters, Isabella, Alexandra, and Liani and numerous nieces and nephews.
His family would like to give a special thanks to Sam, his neighbor, who would take him to doctors appointments and ER visits. Sam also took him all over Corpus to shop for a new car. His thoughtfulness is deeply appreciated. Another special thanks to Ben, his neighbor, who would keep an eye on him to see if anything was needed. Finally a special thanks to John Pilsner who would visit with him and make sure he was doing well.
