

He was a Vietnam Veteran who proudly served in the United States Army from 1966 to 1968. He was a recipient of the Purple Heart and Combat Infantryman Badge.
Aurelio is preceded in death by his father, Manuel de La Garza; second wife, Esperanza de La Garza and brothers, Manuel de La Garza and Manuel de La Garza.
He is survived by his first and current wife of 28 years, Dolores de La Garza and their children, Juan Luis de La Garza, Selena (John) Hoffer, Aurelio (Sommer) de La Garza, Jr. , Almira Soliz and Levi (Kelly) de La Garza; mother, Margarita de La Garza; brothers, Juan (Mary) de La Garza, Augustin (Carmen) de La Garza, Joe (Martha) de La Garza, Manuel (Elena) de La Garza, Benito (Irma) Manzanales, and Ray (Linda) Reyes; sisters, Victoria (Joe) Villarreal and San Juanita Freudiger; grandchildren, Joseph de La Garza, Celeste de La Garza, Regina Soliz, Nicolas Hoffer, Larissa Hoffer and Gabriel Hoffer. Aurelio is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
Visitation will be held on Wednesday, November 12, 2014 from 5:00 pm to 9:00 pm with a Holy Rosary to be recited at 7:00 p.m. at Funeraria del Angel-Memorial Holly Chapel. Funeral Mass will be celebrated Thursday, November 13, 2014 at 12:30 pm at Our Lady of Pilar Catholic Church. Interment will follow at 2:00 pm at Coastal Bend State Veteran’s Cemetery.
