The family of Aurora Valdez Castillo wish to announce with great sadness the passing of their beloved sister, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She peacefully went to her rest in the Lord on January 22, 2022.
Even though she was born in the small community of Tynan, Texas, she grew up and lived most of her life in Corpus Christi, Texas. She graduated from Roy Miller High School, Class of 1960.
She began her work experience in the retail grocery business. She and her husband, Raul Castillo, were co-owners of a wholesale candy business, Corpus Christi Candy Company. A company that was started in the 1930’s and was in business for more than 50 years. After working there for many years, she and her husband retired from that business.
Not one to remain idle during retirement, she decided to study Early Childhood Development. After completing her course of study, she received her certification and license from the State of Texas to open a home daycare center. It became a very popular and well-known daycare with parents of young children. There was almost always a long waiting list of parents wanting to enroll their children in her daycare. After working more than 20 years at her daycare, she decided to retire a second time. This time it was for good. Aurora was also a member of the Corpus Christi Seventh-day Adventist Church.
She was the youngest of 6 children. She is preceded in death by her parents, Mr. & Mrs. Domingo Valdez, husband Raul Castillo; Sisters, Teresa ( Fito) Flores, Alicia ( Nieves) Cuevas, Delphina (Benny) Lozano.
Aurora is survived by her brother Domingo Valdez, Jr., and sister Lillian Valdez. She also leaves two sons behind, Homer (Lorie) Castillo and Roy (Terrie) Castillo; three grandchildren: Rachel Castillo Ayala, Benjamin Castillo, and Maya Castillo; and four great-grandchildren. She also leaves behind many cousins, nephews and nieces.
The Castillo family wish to thank her wonderful nurses and all the dedicated staff at the Cimarron Place Health and Rehabilitation. We are eternally grateful for their selfless devotion and care. She repeatedly expressed her love for her nurses and all the CNAs.
Visitation on Friday, February 4, 2022 from 6:00 to 9:00 p.m. with service at 7:00 p.m. at Funeraria Del Angel-Everhart, 4901 Everhart Road, Corpus Christi, Texas.
