She was born June 16, 1933, in Corpus Christi, Texas to Nellie (Edwards) and Marion Clark Jarrett. In 1957, she left Corpus Christi for Saudi Arabia, where in 1960 she enrolled in the American University of Beirut and earned her bachelor’s and master’s degrees in Modern History of the Middle East. This is also where she met her husband, Michel Alexandre Namour, and later married on October 15, 1963.
Well into her 80’s, Barbara maintained her lifelong passion for learning and would take as many as six international trips a year with a focus on education. In addition to English, she spoke Arabic, Spanish and French. She traveled the world, loved being with children and volunteered her time. She enjoyed dining out with family and friends – and always ensured there was a doggie bag to be shared with the wild animals in her backyard. She believed we are family of man on this earth and that we should love each other, care about each other, understand each other, and work with each other. She was grateful for family and friends and would depart your company with “God Bless”.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, her son, Alexandre Michel Namour (her only child), her brothers Jerry, Robert (Sonny), and Thomas (Tommy) Jarrett, and nephew, Clark Marion Jarrett. She is survived by Ella Beatrice Camille Namour (her only grandchild) of Philadelphia, her daughter-in-law, Leah S. (Schanzer) Namour of New York, numerous nieces, nephews, great nieces, great nephews, cousins, and dear friends from all over the world.
