Barbara graduated from Midland High School in 1951 and went on to attend The University of Texas, where she studied drama. She married William “Charles” Stirling in Austin, TX on June 5, 1954.
Barbara had a career at Shell Oil Company until she had children, and then became a full-time mother. She later worked as a legal secretary for Forest Oil Company. She then dedicated her time to taking care of her husband, Charles, who was ill, and went on to care for her father for the last few years of his life.
She was an accomplished artist and a member of the Art Center of Corpus Christi. She had a passion for painting portraits, landscapes, seascapes and cats, often listening to one of her favorites, Neil Diamond, while painting. Barbara loved cats and had many throughout her lifetime and she featured many of them in one of her paintings. She always had plenty of art supplies available for the grandchildren to use to create artwork of their own.
She is preceded in death by her loving husband of 36 years, Charles Stirling; infant child, William Caldwell Stirling; parents, Olin and Ethel Burnham; and brother, Giles Burnham.
Barbara will be sadly missed by her children, Diane (Donald) Wisian, and Matthew (Lynnette) Stirling; sister, Shirley Doss; grandchildren, Ann (James) Brownlow, Katie (Zachary) Marin, Mattalyn (James) O’Neil, Savannah Stirling, and William Stirling; great-grandchildren, Austin Brownlow, Emily Brownlow, William Brownlow, Carson Marin, Adalyn Marin, Matthew Sidor and Charlene O’Neil; and several nieces and nephews.
Special thanks to her niece, Deedie Poteat and sister, Shirley Doss for the loving attention and care given to Barbara over the last few years, and to Christus Hospice and Palliative Care for their care and compassion.
