Betty Jean was born on September 10, 1944 in Antioch, CA. She moved to the Rio Grande Valley at a young age with her family. There, she married Malcom “Zeno” Stout in 1966 after obtaining her BS in library science at Texas Women’s University in 1965.
She and Zeno were married 57 years in February of this year. They had two children, Matthew Zeno Stout of Corvallis, Oregon and Laura Rene Steward (Allen) of Payson, Arizona.
Preceding her in death were her parents, James R. Carden and Emogene Fergerson Carden; her sister, Charlotte Mae Newbern and her brother, Gerald Rhea Carden.
She leaves behind to cherish her memory, her brother, James Carden (Betty Jo) of Jacksonville, Florida; Donald Carden (Sue) of Corpus Christi, Texas; granddaughter, Dasel Samuels and many nieces and nephews, as well.
