Bobby Joe Scott entered eternal rest on Thursday, February 20, 2025, at the age of 91. He was born on July 4,1933, in Baldwyn, Mississippi to his parents R. Leonard Scott and Lillian Mabry Scott. Eventually the family settled in Arkansas. There were nine children in the family, 6 girls and 3 boys.
On March 30, 1956, Bobby married the love of his life, Phyllis Mary Jean Newcom Scott who predeceased him on April 24, 2021. They were married for 65 years. Bobby is survived by their children; Ramona Lea, Joel Bradford, and Eric Brent (Diana). Grandchildren are: Narcisa Lea Dempsey (Geoffrey), Travis Juston Scott (Katelynn), Jaclyn Scott Chisamore (Michael), and Jenifer Clair Scott. Great-grandchildren are: Olivia Rose Aguilar, Chandler Grace Dempsey, Delaney Scott Dempsey, and Emerson James Scott. He is also survived by two siblings; Rueben L. Scott (Joann), of Shreveport, Louisiana and Trena M. Lunsford (Ralph ‘Sonny’) of Little Rock, Arkansas.
Bobby graduated from Bay High School in May 1952 and remained in Bay, Arkansas until he was drafted into the U.S. Army in 1953. He took basic training at Fort Chaffee and was assigned to the 77th Field Artillery in Japan where he remained until discharge in October 1955. Bobby returned home to Bay, Arkansas and in 1956 entered Arkansas State College to study Business Administration. He graduated in January 1959 and began working with the U.S. Department of Labor, Wage and Hour Division where he worked until August 1993.
Bobby did well in his career with the U.S. Dept of Labor. He earned promotions moving the family to cities in Arkansas and eventually on to Houston, TX and then Corpus Christi, TX where they have been since Dec 1974. He retired in August 1993. He enjoyed many hobbies. His free time was spent fishing, hunting, gardening, listening to country music and making memories with his family. After retirement he took up golf and became an avid golfer.
From an early age, attending church was important to Bobby. He attended church in his teen years at First Baptist Church in Bay, Arkansas. He and Phyllis attended Windsor Park Baptist when first in Corpus Christi and sometime in the 1980s joined First Baptist Church. He served as Director of the Agape Class for many years and became a deacon in 2006.
A visitation for Bobby will be held Thursday, March 6, 2025 at 10:00 AM at First Baptist Church, 3115 Ocean Dr., Corpus Christi, TX 78404. A prayer service will occur Thursday, March 6, 2025 at 11:00 AM, 3115 Ocean Dr., TX 78404. A burial will occur Thursday, March 6, 2025 at 1:00 PM at Coastal Bend State Veterans Cemetery, 9974 Ih 37 Access Rd, Corpus Christi, Texas 78410.
