Bobbye F. Sims, 84, passed away peacefully surrounded by her family on September 19, 2010. Bobbye was born on February 2, 1926 in Beaumont, Texas. She was a daughter to the late Robert and Helen Mayfield. Bobbye grew up mainly in Corpus Christi with her three sisters; Myrl Rhodes, Annelle Switalla, Carol Richter and one brother, Thomas Mayfield. She was a graduate of Corpus Christi High School in 1943 and attended both Corpus Christi Junior College and the University of Texas in Austin, Texas. Bobbye met her love, Raymond Nelson Sims while both were attending the local Junior College and Raymond was in the Navy. They were married on August 3, 1946 in the First United Methodist Church of Corpus Christi. Bobbye and Ray have two children: Ernest Sims and Carolyn Sims Barecky.
Bobbye and Ray moved to California for several years where they built precious memories and began their family.
Bobbye diligently blended both career and family through the years working at banks both in California and Corpus Christi while also volunteering numerous hours at a local hospital. She became a life long member of Beta Sigma Phi Sorority in the city where she held several offices and modeled in numerous style shows. Bobbye’s modeling career frequently found her photos in the Corpus Christi Caller Times. Her physical and innate beauty will forever remain a part of all those she touched. In the early 1970’s, Bobbye and Ray forged their plans and efforts in beginning Colonia del Rey RV. This successful trailer business has both grown and prospered remaining in the family as a source of pride and tradition.
Preceding her in death is her sister, Myrl Rhodes and her brother, Thomas Mayfield.
Survivors include her husband of sixty-four years, Raymond Sims; two sisters, Annelle Switalla, Carol Richter; her two children, Ernest Sims and wife. Wanda, Carolyn Sims Barecky and husband, James; five grandchildren, Christopher Barecky, Drew Barecky (Kimberly), Diane Southall (Matthew), twins- Melissa and Brian Sims; two great grandchildren, Zackary and Cassidy Barecky. Visitation will be held from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m., Wednesday, September 22, 2010 at Cage-Mills Funeral Directors, 4901 Everhart Road. Funeral services will be conducted at 10:00 a.m., Thursday, September 23, 2010 at the First United Methodist Church with interment to follow at Memory Gardens Cemetery. In lieu of flowers contributions can be made to the building fund at First United Methodist Church.
