Brad was born on March 8, 1951, in Corpus Christi, Texas, to Bradley Hershel Walston and Aleen (Kuban) Walston. He made his home in Portland, Texas, where he and his family lived for the past 40 years.
In February 1978, Brad married Candace (Candy) Rohan. Together, they built a life and family that Bradley was incredibly proud of. More than anything else, his family was what mattered to him.
Brad was the kind of father who was always there for his children. No matter what the circumstances were or how they got there, they knew their dad had their back. He would do anything for his kids and would give everything he had if it meant helping one of them. He was proud of each of his children and the lives and families they built.
As proud as he was to be a dad, becoming a grandfather brought him even more joy. He loved being Grandpa and Pepaw and was incredibly proud of all his grandchildren, whom he affectionately called his “turtles.” His turtles held a very special place in his heart, and there was never any doubt about how much their Grandpa and Pepaw loved them.
Brad spent his career working offshore, beginning with Superior Oil and continuing with Mobil and later ExxonMobil. His years offshore were a large part of his life, but the role that meant the most to him was always the one waiting for him at home—husband, Dad, Grandpa and Pepaw.
Brad is survived by his wife of 48 years, Candy Walston; his son Chris Walston and his wife, Holly, and their children Caleb, Riley and Reagan; his son Nathan Walston and his children Brendyn, Dalten and Lysette; his sons Nick Walston and Andrew Walston; and his daughter Casey Marin and her husband, Michael, and their children Brayden, Brielle, Wyatt, Wrenley and Enzley.
He is also survived by his sisters, Janet Walker and her husband, David, and Marilyn Spofford and her husband, John, as well as many nieces and nephews.
Brad was preceded in death by his parents, Bradley Hershel Walston and Aleen Walston, and his infant brother, Ronald Walston.
Brad leaves behind a family that will miss him more than words can say, but also a family that will always know how deeply they were loved. His children will remember a dad who was there when they needed him, and his grandchildren will remember a Grandpa and Pepaw who couldn’t have been prouder of his turtles.
A memorial service celebrating Brad’s life will be held on October 16, 2026, at 10:00 a.m. at Memory Gardens Funeral Home & Cemetery 8200 Old Brownsville Rd. Corpus Christi, Texas 78415. Visitation will begin at 9:00 a.m. prior to the service.
