Carolina Rivera Martinez

Carolina R. Martinez passed away in Brownsville, TX on January 29, 2011 at the age of 93. She was born on September 20, 1917 to the late Encarnacion and Julia Rivera in Laredo, TX, but resided most of her years in Corpus Christi, TX.

In her younger years, Carolina worked as a sales clerk for McLellan in Laredo, TX and was also a nursing assistant. Gardening, drawing, bingo and crossword puzzles were some of her favorite hobbies. She had a wonderful laugh and held great conversations that attracted many friends. She will be dearly missed by her family, friends and her beloved bird, Kiko.

She is preceded in death by her loving husband of 64 years, Raul T Martinez; her parents, and her grandson, Paul Silvas.

Carolina is survived by her five children, Rosalinda M. Narvaez, Raul R. Martinez, Paul L. Martinez, Julia M. Arsuaga (Mike) and Richard Martinez (Pat). She is also survived by her eight grandchildren, Salvador, Gabriel, Daniel, Cynthia, Julianne, Joseph, Kristina and Courtney; six great-grandchildren and other family members and friends.

Visitation will be held at Funeraria Del Angel-Memorial Holly on Thursday, February 3, 2011 from 3:00 pm to 9:00 pm with a Holy Rosary to be recited that same evening at 7:00 pm. A Mass of Christian Burial will take place on Friday, February 4, 2011 at 10:00 am at Ss. Cyril and Methodius Catholic Church with interment to follow at Rosehill Memorial Park.

The family would like to give a special thanks to Brownsville Nursing and Rehabilitation Center and Dr. Mark Strauss and staff for the great care and attention given to their mother in her time of need.
