Connie Gonzalez, 78, of Corpus Christi, Texas, passed away August 27, 2025, after a courageous battle against breast cancer. She never quit nor paused living. Instead, she went full afterburner doing the things and spending time with those she loved the most!
She was born in Corpus Christi, Texas, on February 24, 1947. Connie graduated from Ray High School while working two jobs and helping to raise her six siblings. After a chance encounter at a local drive in, Connie dated and then married Polo González on November 21, 1969, whom she loved with every fiber of her being. Their love transcended life’s challenges, but their union remained strong with numerous adventurers until Polo’s passing on April 22, 2017.
Connie’s continuous priority until her last breath was her children, Iris and Michael. Her universe centered on their development, discipline, and wellbeing. The quintessential Hispanic mother, Connie left no need unfulfilled. Always quick to share a parable with choice, colorful words, Connie taught her children through example about work ethic, integrity, personal appearance, discipline, timeliness, thriftiness, and humility.
With children grown and Polo resting peacefully in Heaven, Our Lord sent Connie an Angel, Chris Rangel. For almost seven years, Connie and Chris were inseparable both with passions for DIY home improvements, gardening, crafting, thrifting, traveling and enjoying great meals. Chris cared for Connie during her darkest battles against cancer never leaving her side even to her last breath.
A devote Catholic, Connie relied on her Faith to see her through the difficult times in her life and also thanked the Lord for her many blessings.
Connie is survived by her children, Iris Gonzalez (Darin) and LtCol Michael Gonzalez, USMC (retired); daughter-in-law, Lidia Gonzalez; grandchildren, Sophia and Luke Gonzalez; siblings, Lupe Gonzalez (Alonzo), Carmen Munoz, Richard Gaytan (Laura), Gloria Ortiz, and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents Isaías and Natalia Gaytan, by siblings Viola Trevino, Paul Gaytan, Amelia Dominguez, sister-in-law Aurora Saldana and several beloved relatives.
Connie’s rosary and church service begins at 08:30 a.m. on Monday, September 15, 2025, at Saint Joseph Church in Corpus Christi, Texas, with a private burial scheduled at Coastal Bend State Veterans' Cemetery in Corpus Christi, Texas.
