David R. Vasquez passed away on Feb. 28, 2025. He was 64. David was born in Corpus Christi to Rodolfo “Rudy” and Elisa Vasquez on April 12, 1960. He graduated from Moody High School in 1978. He was a member of the Moody High School band where he learned to play the drums. He enjoyed sports, the Dallas Cowboys of course, his plants and his children and grandchildren. He loved talking sports with anyone who would engage with him, especially his pastor and his sidekick Eunice.
He was a member of Segunda Iglesia Bautista where he played the drums for almost 20 years for Sunday services and the special Easter and Christmas cantatas under the direction of his special friend, Bro. Ray Sanchez. He also played alongside his son-in-law, Michael and his brother-in-law, Moises Castro Jr.
He married his wife Tina of 44 years on May 9, 1981. He loved his daughter April Pauline very much. Of course, she was his only daughter and every year he would set up her Christmas village to display for his grandsons. He was proud of his son Matthew who had recently graduated college. Matthew played football since he was 7 years old and through high school at Moody and David never missed a single game. He and Aaron had a special bond. Watching shows that were funny and laughing all the time. He enjoyed listening to his grandson Jimmy play the trombone and piano and was anxious to help his grandson Mason get on those drums.
He loved talking to his little sister Jolly on the phone about plants and about their grandchildren. He would look forward to his talks with his big brother Rudy about all the high school games going on around town and trains. He enjoyed helping his mom take care of her yard and was always looking out for her plants. His dad was his football buddy. He was always talking to grandpa Rudy about their Hot Wheels collection.
He was preceded in death by his mother-in-law, Manuela Castro.
Survivors include his parents, Rudy and Elisa Vasquez of Corpus Christi; his wife, Tina; daughter, April (Michael); sons, Matthew and Aaron, all of Corpus Christi. He is also survived by his brother, Rudy (Isabel) of Mercedes; and his sister, Jolly Ann (Fermin) from Anna, Texas; also several aunts, nieces and nephews, sisters-in-law, and brothers-in-law, all who loved him very much.
The family wishes to express their sincere thanks for all those who prayed for his healing and for strength for his family. Our church families, Segunda and Calvary Baptist were of great support to the family. We will never forget.
Pallbearers will be Joseph and Anthony Elizalde, Ismael Cantu, Moises Castro Jr., Michael Perez and Alex Gonzalez.
Faith till the very last.
