Debra Jean Jones, age 71, born May 1, 1955, passed away peacefully on August 13, 2026, surrounded by the love of a family whose lives were forever made brighter by her presence. For more than seven decades, Debra lived a life filled with love, laughter, music, family, and an unmistakable personality that made her truly unforgettable. From childhood, Debra held a very special place within her family. Her mother was especially protective of her, her father adored her, and to her brothers and sisters, Debra was not simply their sister—she was a treasured part of the memories that made their family a family.
Debra was a high achiever and proud participant in numerous Special Olympics competitions in the Corpus Christi area, earning many medals and ribbons throughout her Special Olympics career. Her determination, enthusiasm, and competitive spirit were a source of tremendous pride for her family. Yet Debra's greatest accomplishments could never be measured only by medals or ribbons. Her life was measured by something far more important—the happiness she brought to others, the love she gave so freely, and the love she received in return.
Those who knew Debra will remember her carefree spirit, her beautiful smile, and her love for music and dancing. She was always ready to sing “Happy Birthday” to anyone willing to listen and found great happiness in her favorite foods, desserts, holidays, family gatherings, and simply being surrounded by the people she loved. Debra especially had a bond with her sister Sheryl, who provided a loving and safe haven for the family's shining star. Through Debra, her family learned lessons about patience, acceptance, loyalty, laughter, and unconditional love, and she reminded everyone that some of life's greatest joys are often found in its simplest moments.
Debra survives by her siblings Sheryl Jones, Michael Jones, Belinda Jones, and Donnie Jones, and Joseph Smith of Jennings, LA, along with numerous nieces and nephews spanning more than two generations. Each carries special memories of Debra that will keep her spirit alive for years to come. She was preceded in death by her beloved parents, Donald and Eloise Jones, and her siblings Douglas Jones, Charlotte Jones, Jimmy Jones, Sheila Jones and Barbara Jones-Smith. Debra now joins those loved ones who went before her while leaving behind a family forever changed by the privilege of having known and loved her.
Her family will remember her smile. They will remember her dancing and singing, the holidays, the laughter, the family gatherings, and all those little moments that seemed ordinary at the time but now means so much. Most of all, they will remember Debra. Her spirit will live on through those who loved her, who will share her stories and pass on her legacy to the generations that follow. Every medal, every song, every dance, every smile, and every treasured family memory tells a part of the story of a remarkable woman who brought joy simply by being herself.
Although Debra's earthly journey has come to an end, the love she brought into the lives of those around her does not end with her passing. It continues through every story told about her, every smile brought about by her memory, and every family member whose life was touched because she was part of it. Debra will be deeply missed, lovingly remembered, and forever treasured by all who knew and loved her.
Forever loved. Forever remembered. Forever our Debra.
