Dexter Rees Wright “DW”/Grandad, 80, of Corpus Christi, Texas, passed away on October 19, 2019 with his daughter Kim and son in law Phillip at his side. He was born in Ft. Worth, Texas on March 24, 1939. Dexter graduated from W.B. Ray High School. He married the love of his life Caron Lee Wright on January 1, 1959.

Dexter had an entrepreneurial career in Tour and Travel and owned and founded Wright Way Campers, American Frontier, Fun Time Tours and DW’s Country Showplace. Aside from his family he had two passions in life, one of which was a tour and travel business which he made widely successful with Fun Time Tours and the other was to entertain with music and shows which he accomplished by obtaining the Old Center Theatre in downtown Corpus Christi and launching the family oriented entertainment of DW’s Country Showplace.

Dexter started his tour and travel business chartering busses from Greyhound and Trailways and taking groups to the Dallas Cowboy games. He eventually bought his first buffalo bus and launched into his adventure. From Dallas Cowboy games to skiing in New Mexico, Branson, Missouri shows to Bingo trips and Casino destinations, Dexter had the joy of watching people live their lives to the fullest.

Early in their marriage he and Caron participated in long distance boat racing and drag racing as well. Dexter was known as a giver. He was a quiet often very funny man that demanded respect not because of words he spoke but simply because of the nature in which he carried himself.

He is preceded in death by his parents: G.B. and Lillian Wright; wife: Caron Wright and daughter: Jana Wright. He is survived by his daughter: Kimberly (Phillip) Jackson. Also survived by 4 grandchildren, Jennifer (Kyle) Carlile, Brittany (Nathan) Green, Christopher Wright and Johnathon Wright and 8 great-grandchildren, Paisley Faye Green, Brantley Ryder Green, Jackson Rees Green, Makenlee Jade Carlile, Mikah Carlile, Mason Carlile, Tyler Rees Wright, Saryah Lee Wright.

Visitation will be held at Memory Gardens Chapel on Thursday, October 24, 2019 from 5:00 – 9:00 PM. Funeral service will be held at Memory Gardens Chapel on Friday, October 25, 2019 at 11:00 AM with interment immediately following.

The first time I met Dexter was only recently at our church. He was standing close to Kim at the back of the sanctuary. Kim was thrilled to introduced him and when I commented on his daughter, Dexter broke out in such pride, it was palpable in the very air around him. His smile lit up his eyes. What a joy to have witnessed such mutual love and affection!
