Edward Cardona Sr.

Edward was a kind, wise, and loving person who enriched the lives of all who knew him. He had a strong will and encouraged others to stay strong in times of need. He had a unique way of making people smile and laugh.

Although he is deeply missed, the cherished memories and invaluable lessons that he left behind will be forever etched in our hearts.

Edward is survived by his beloved wife of 48 beautiful years, Maria Dahlia Cardona; four children, Edward Cardona Jr, Joseph (Laura) Cardona, Jennifer (Jason) Escalante, and Crystal (James) Werden. He had a special relationship with his eight grandchildren that will forever be cherished, Maria Lynn Escalante, James Edward Werden IV, Jason Michael Escalante Jr, Lynette Dahlia Werden, Sara Cardona, Daron Cardona, Lillie Cardona, Daisy Fuentes and two great-grandchildren, M.J Moreno and Scarlett Moreno.

Edward is also survived by his siblings, Norma (Fernando) Hernandez, Gaspar Ortiz, Edilia (Eddie) Avila, Enrique (Cindi) Villarreal Jr, Elda (Richard) Villareal Landis, Eliza Villarreal, Elynda Moeller, and Eric Villarreal, as well as numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

Edward Sr. is now reunited with his mother, Gregoria C. Ortiz; father, Enrique Villarreal; grandparents, Manuel and Luisa Cardona; mother-in-law, Palmira Valdez; father-in-law, Lucio Valdez, and many other loved ones.

Edward will always be remembered as a loving husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle, and good friend. He will be missed dearly but never forgotten and will live forever in our hearts.

The pallbearers for his funeral will be his brother, Gaspar Ortiz Jr.; brother-in-laws Fernando Hernandez Sr., Noe Valdez Sr.; nephews, Fernando Hernandez Jr., Jacob Hernandez Jr., Noe Valdez Jr., and Jesse Valdez, as well as his son-in-law James Werden III.

A public visitation for Edward will be held Sunday, January 21, 2024 from 5:00 PM to 9:00 PM at Memory Gardens Funeral Home & Cemetery, 8200 Old Brownsville Road, Corpus Christi, Texas 78415, with a holy rosary at 7:00 PM. A funeral mass will occur Monday, January 22, 2024 at 9:30 AM at Our Lady of Pilar Catholic Church, 1101 Bloomington St, Corpus Christi, Texas 78416. An interment will occur Monday, January 22, 2024 at 11:00 AM at Memory Gardens Cemetery, 8200 Old Brownsville Road, Corpus Christi, Texas 78415.
