
E.L. (Windy) Surginer 90 of Sinton, Texas passed away May 1, 2026 in Corpus Christi, Texas. He was born to Lawrence Thomas and Lera Skaggs Surginer December 22,1935 in Wills Point, Texas. He married Pauline Newman in 1961 and two sons were born to them; E.L. Surginer Jr. (Diane) and Charles Thomas Surginer (Patricia).
Windy served in the U.S. Marine Corps then the U.S. Army 82nd Airborne Paratroopers. He worked for General Motors in Arlington and spent some time in construction before starting a long career as an interstate trucker retiring from Koch Services in Corpus Christi.
He was involved with Bluegrass Gospel music for over 50 years and served as pastor of Mayfield Baptist Church in Corpus Christi and later the Cowboy Fellow of San Patricio where he remained a member.
Windy was a Mason with membership as Sinton AF&AM Lodge 1012.
He was preceded in death by his parents Lawrence T. and Lera Skaggs Surginer, wife Pauline Newman Surginer, brothers Acie and David, and two sisters Martie Armstrong and Helen Pumphrey.
He is survived by his wife Margaret Varderman, sons E.L. Surginer Jr. (Diane), Charles Thomas Surginer (Patricia), stepchildren Stacy Scott, and Jade Vaderman, sister Patricia Coleman, and brother Larry Surginer (Barbara), 9 grandchildren and 6 great grandchildren.
Visitation will be held at Memory Gardens Funeral Home, 8200 Old Brownsville Road, Corpus Christi, TX 78415, US, on May 18, 2026, from 10:30 am to 11:30 am, followed by the Funeral at Memory Gardens Funeral Home from 11:30 am to 12:30 pm.
Committal will take place at Coastal Bend State Veterans Cemetery, 9974 I-37, Corpus Christi, TX 78410, US, on May 18, 2026, from 1:00 pm to 1:30 pm.
Pallbearers will be David Burt, Brandon Burt, Mike Gresham, Lane Gresham, Nick Gresham, Dusty Surginer.
