Elida C. Recio, age 89, passed away peacefully after a short illness on Tuesday evening, August 23, 2022. Elida or “Lela” as she was affectionately known, was born on August 8th in Yorktown, TX. to Mariano and Gregoria Cantu. Lela met the love of her life, Antonio Recio, Sr and they were married on February 4, 1956, and celebrated their 66th wedding anniversary this past February with a dinner and dance.
Lela was employed by JC Penneys and then owned and operated her own flower shop – Elida’s Flowers on Kostoryz Road for many years.
Lela was a woman of great faith. She never failed to pray her rosary every evening. Lela enjoyed sewing, gardening, flower arranging, watching her grandchildren and great-grandchildren play.
Lela is predeceased by her beloved parents, Mariano and Gregoria Cantu, her brothers Frank and Baleriano Cantu and her sister Enedina Fernandez.
Lela is survived by her loving husband, Antonio, Sr. by her eight children: Antonio (Shinda) Recio, Jr., Rick (Maria) Recio, Elena (Jesse “Beto”) Salinas, Oscar (Bernadette) Recio, Norma Recio, Frank (Yvonne) Recio, Ernie (Neri) Recio and Elida (Ernest) Salazar. Lela leaves a legacy of 17 grandchildren, 27 great-grandchildren, 9 great-great-grandchildren with two on the way and numerous nieces and nephews who she loved as her own.
Visitation will begin at 5:00 P.M. on Thursday, September 1, 2022, at Holy Family Catholic Church, 2509 Nogales, Corpus Christi, TX. with the rosary service following at 7:00 PM A Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Friday, September 2, 2022, at 10:00 AM at Holy Family Catholic Church. Burial to follow at Rose Hill Cemetery.
The family would like to extend their thanks and appreciation to the staff at Windsor Nursing home and Gracia Hospice for the excellent care they gave their mother.
