Emily Rivera Hunter

Emily Rivera Hunter, 75, passed away on May 29, 2014. She was born on August 12, 1938 in Lyford, Texas to Vicente Rivera and Manuela Palacios Rivera. Emily resided in Corpus Christi, TX the last 26 years of her life and was a long term residence of South Texas. Beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and great grandmother Emily was dedicated to her family. She sacrificed much for her family. Her sacrifices for her family will never be forgotten. After a courageous battle with cancer, Emily passed in peace to be with her Lord & Savior Jesus Christ. At the age of 50 Emily earned her G.E.D. so she could attend Del Mar College in Corpus Christi where she would earn her associates degree and become a Registered Nurse. Prior to this accomplishment, Emily only had an 8th grade education having grown up humble and entering the workforce at an early age. Later in her life she wanted to set an example for her children. She set an example of determination and hard work that it is never too late to further your education. Her example, lead to her being inducted into the “Del Mar College Student Hall of Fame.” Aside from her children, her career as a registered nurse is her proudest accomplishment. She loved being a nurse and being able to take care of people. Her compassion for other people made her a perfect fit for being a nurse and it although in the later part of her life was God’s calling for her. Her legacy is the love she gave without hesitation to all of her family and friends. Her love and character will live in the hearts of her children, grandchildren, great grandchildren, relatives, and friends. She is forever loved, respected, and never forgotten. She fought the good fight and gave her all. She always talked about how much she loved Jesus her Lord and Savior. She is at peace and rejoices with God and the angels now. She is survived by her husband, Roger Norman Hunter, sons, Roger Vincent Hunter, Jeffery Hunter, John Hunter, James Hunter, her grandchildren, great-grandchildren and many more. Visitation will be held on Tuesday, June 3, 2014 from 4:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. The Family will be receiving friends from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at Memory Gardens Funeral Home Chapel. Funeral Service will be celebrated on Wednesday, June 4, 2014 at 2:00 p.m. at Memory Gardens Funeral Home with Entombment to following at Memory Gardens Mausoleum.
