He is reunited with his parents, Esequiel Elizaldi Sr. and Josefina Elizalde; sister Lucy Dominguez; brother, Jessie Elizalde; and his great grand-daughter Zahnay Bee Elizalde.
Esequiel "Zeke" leaves his loving memories to his wife of 56 beautiful years, Janie M. Elizalde; their sons, Esequiel Elizalde III, James Elizalde (Lety), Michael Elizalde (Imelda); daughters, Lisa Marie Elizalde, Emerson Jane Elizalde; nieces, Rose Quiroz, Mary Reyes, Cynthia Garcia; UT son, Daniel Armendariz; eleven grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; he is also survived by a host of nieces, nephews and extended grandchildren.
Hard work was instilled in Esequiel "Zeke" at a young age beginning with growing up on a ranch and picking cotton in the field. He was a dedicated student in school and went on to achieve Salutatorian with his graduating class. Esequiel "Zeke" was granted a full scholarship to college but he courageously chose to serve his country honorably in the United States Air Force during the Vietnam War. It was his passion to work hard for anything he did in life and always took care of his beloved family. Esequiel "Zeke" is the Patriarch of his family and his legacy will live on through them.
He worked at Burger Chef as an Assistant Manager and later was employed by Cain’s Coffee Co. as a supervisor for 23 years until his retirement. Zeke loved to travel with his wife, spending time with his growing family, BBQing for them, not only on special occasions, but just because. His favorite pastime was attending the University of Texas football games. He truly loved UT. He was a collector of Christmas houses and was always happy to add more to his already huge collection of Christmas villages. It would take days and countless hours to put up the decorations. It brought him joy to see it finally finished as it did to all of his family. His favorite “A Christmas Story” movie could be watched over and over.
The family would like to extend a very special Thanks of Gratitude to our grand-daughter, Abigail Ponce for the love and care she gave her grandpa through his hospital stay and through his last breath.
Family will receive friends at Memory Gardens Funeral Home on Wednesday, May 15, 2024 at 11:00 a.m. A Funeral Service will begin at 12:30 p.m. in the Funeral Home Chapel. He will be laid to rest at Coastal Bend State Veterans Cemetery with Full Military Honors.
