Eva Jo Echols, age 90, of Missouri City, Texas passed away peacefully in her sleep on Sunday, January 9, 2022. Eva was born August 9, 1931, in Montague, Texas to Cecil and Jewell Richardson. After her mother passed away at an early age, she gained a loving stepmother, Lola Richardson.
Eva graduated in 1948 from Roy Miller High School in Corpus Christi, Texas and married A.E. “Eck” Echols that same year. They were married for 49 years before Eck’s death in 1997. Over their years together they lived and raised their children in Port Lavaca and Portland, Texas; and Shreveport, Louisiana, before settling permanently in Missouri City, Texas in the mid-1970’s. In addition to being a mother and homemaker, Eva worked as an office administrator for a Corpus Christi radiology group for several years and as payroll manager for Mundy Companies in the Houston area, where she worked for 35 years until her retirement.
Eva enjoyed spending time in her backyard and garden, painting landscapes and crafts for family and friends, and sewing everything from clothes, to quilts and handy items for her home. After her retirement Eva spent many years enjoying the “snowbird” life in Rockport, Texas where she had a vacation RV. She was involved with the Rockport Center for the Arts and yearly Art Festival, and enjoyed fishing, crabbing and sharing her love of the Texas coast with her grandchildren and great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by parents Cecil & Jewel Richardson; stepmother Lola Richardson; husband A.E. “Eck” Echols; and brother Paul Richardson.
