

Evarista Talamantes Garza entered heaven on October 5, 2013. Evarista was born in Big Wells, Texas on October 26, 1923 to Mauricio & Gabriela Talamantes. Mrs. Garza is preceded in death by her parents her husband of 48 years, Concepcion Y. Garza. Also preceded in death by her siblings, Alvaro, Ranulfo and Mauricio Talamantes.
Evarista is survived by sisters Eva Mata, Aurelia Rodriquez and Olivia Silva all of Chicago, Illinois, Inez Ramirez of San Antonio, Beatrice Talamantes of Big Wells and brother Felipe Talamantes of Big Wells. Also survived by her children Norma Garza, Roy Garza, Abel Garza, Johnny (Carmen) Garza, Tommy (Elaine) Garza, Robert (Mary) Garza, and Terry Jerome (Deborah) Garza. She is also survived by step-daughters Mary (Paul) Garza and Rosemary (Vic) Bowlick. Also survived by 17 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.
Evarista worked at Fort Sam Houston from 1943 to 1947, then returned to Big Wells at the end of the war and worked for a local grower, until she married in 1950 and moved to Corpus Christi and became a housewife and caregiver. Evarista then worked at the Corpus Christi State School for fifteen years as a teachers aide and retired.
Evarista spent her retirement doing what she loved best, gardening, and traveling and spending as much time as she could with her children, grandchildren and siblings. Evarista was a great cook and enjoyed cooking for her family.
Evarista had great love for God, and her kindness touched so many hearts. She had patience and a good ear for listening without judging. She will be dearly missed.
Honorary pallbearers are Roy Garza, Abel Garza, Johnny Garza, Eric Garza, Tommy Garza, Robert Garza, Terry Jerome Garza and Felipe Talamantes.Pallbearers will be Martin Chandler, William Chandler, Andrew Chandler, Johnny Garza Jr, Robert Garza Jr, Abel Garza Jr.
Private Viewing will commence at 4pm and public viewing will begin at 5pm on Thursday, October, 10, 2013 at Memory Gardens Funeral Home on Old Brownsville Road, with a Catholic Rosary beginning at 7pm. Mass will be recited on Friday, October 11, 2013 at 10am at Most Precious Blood Catholic Church. Interment will be at Memory Gardens Cemetery on Old Brownsville Road.
