December 17, 1948 – October 8, 2026
Federico Fernando Garcia Sr., lovingly known as “Fred,” passed away on October 8, 2026. Born in Falfurrias, Texas, Fred grew up surrounded by the ranching way of life. From an early age, he developed a deep love for the land and cattle, a passion that stayed with him throughout his life.
Fred dedicated many years of hard work as a Foreman at Celanese, where he was better known as “Toro Melón.” Outside of work, he pursued his passion for farming and ranching. He loved his cows, his John Deere, and the life he built through determination and hard work.
Above all, Fred loved his family. He shared nearly 60 years of marriage with his beloved wife, Fantina, and was a proud father to Melissa (Ramiro), and Federico Jr. “Freddie” (Catherine). His legacy lives on through his grandchildren, Courtney, Russell, Grace and Edward, along with his sisters, Linda Perez, Thelma Moreno, Minerva Ewing and numerous nieces and nephews.
Known for his strong work ethic and unmistakable personality, Fred found joy in the simple things. For many years, Sundays meant barbecue and family gathered together — a tradition that will forever hold a special place in the hearts of those who loved him.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Federico Garcia and Celia Garza Garcia.
Fred leaves behind a lasting legacy of hard work, family, and a deep love for the ranching life. He will be dearly missed and forever remembered by all who knew and loved him.
May he rest in eternal peace in the loving presence of our Lord.
