It is with deep love and profound sadness that we announce the passing of Federico Guerra Soliz, a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, who left this world peacefully at the age of 88.
He was born in Ramirez, Texas on January 6, 1937, to his parents, Amador Soliz and Dominga Guerra Soliz. He attended and graduated from Benavides High School in 1955. Federico lived a life marked by unwavering strength, selfless dedication, and a heart that beat for his family above all else. He married the love of his life, Candelaria, on September 27, 1958, at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Falfurrias, Texas. They were married for over 66 beautiful years and together they built a legacy of love, resilience, and family. Federico and Candelaria raised six children and one beloved grandson, filling their home with laughter, guidance, and unconditional support.
A tireless provider, Federico worked long, hard hours to ensure his family never went without. He worked for over 60 years for J.I. Hailey Inc., an oil field trucking company hauling pipes. His work ethic was unmatched, yet he never allowed his responsibilities to overshadow his role as a father. He instilled in his children the values of hard work, honesty, and integrity. Weekly park visits, family, outings, and Sunday visits to see his mother, aunts, and uncles were sacred traditions - evidence of the importance he placed on connection, care, and presence. Family was his entire world. When his children would visit, his favorite thing to say was “Hay mucho trabajo!”. Those words not only supported his humor but also reflected his value of hard work.
In the final chapter of his life, the strength that defined him became gentleness as he lovingly devoted himself to his wife’s care. For the last 12 years, he stood by her side with meticulous attention, honoring their vows not just in words, but in every action, every day. He leaves behind a large and loving family, including numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren who carry his spirit, values, and love forward.
Federico is preceded in death by his wife, Candelaria H. Soliz; his son, Federico Soliz, Jr.; parents, Amador and Dominga Soliz; brother, Amador Soliz, Jr.; sister-in-law, Margarita Soliz and brother-in-law, Juventino Ortiz.
Left to cherish his memory are his children, Drs. Sandra (Haysam) Dawod, Sylvia (Steve) Contreras, Gilberto (Annette) Soliz, Selina (William) Reyna, and Suzanna (Steven) Garcia, sister, Olga Ortiz and numerous cherished grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
The family would like to extend their deepest gratitude and heartfelt appreciation to Trinity Hospice with a special thanks to Lane Kilbourn, Carmen and Brandy for the outstanding care and compassion provided for their beloved father. Special thanks to his caregivers Maralene Mechell, Monica Garcia, and Alexis Leal for the exceptional care provided.
Those with the honor of being a pallbearer are as follows: Dr. David Dawod, Justin Cruz, Matthew Dawod, David Jacob Garcia, Fredrick Soliz, and Noah Garcia. Joshua Reyna will be serving as an honorary pallbearer. Though his absence leaves an irreplaceable void, Federico’s life will continue to shine through the family he raised, the lives he touched, and the love he gave so freely. Rejoice in heaven and rest well, Daddy, you were the rock of our family and your love will echo for generations.
