Fidel Martinez Perez, a loving husband and father of six, went to be with the Lord on Sunday, January 30, 2022, at the young age of 83. On April 3, 1938, he was born in Concepcion, TX, to Fidel and Natividad (Martinez) Perez. As the youngest of seven children, Fidel (affectionately known as Fidelito) was adored by his mother and older siblings. During his senior year at W.B. Ray High School, Fidel met the love of his life, his “massita,” Amelia. Their marriage of 61 years was built on a foundation of love, faith, and commitment to family. Fidel proudly served the United States Army for eight years. He and Amelia raised their children in Corpus Christi and Orange Grove. Fidel was involved with the Knights of Columbus and assisted with Boy Scout Troop 178.
Fidel was hard-working, boisterous, and full of life. Fidel loved being outdoors, working on the ranch, and sharing his passion for music with his children. A favorite pastime was taking the family in the blue camper truck to the beach. After retiring from McKesson, Fidel worked on projects at his home and enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren. The family will greatly miss hearing his laugh, funny antics, and his dedication as a family man.
Fidel is preceded in death by his parents, Fidel and Natividad, and siblings: Teodoro, Louisa, Edna, Arabella (Chala), and Belia.
Fidel is survived by his wife Amelia; children Teresa (Steve) Reitz, Dolores Perez, Belinda (Roy) Rios, Patricia Perez, Celica (Kevin) Belcher, and Fidel (Songme) Perez; and brother Inocente Perez. Eleven grandchildren: Jaime Garza Jr., Victoria (Thomas) Fitzgerald, Adan Rios, Kristin Perez, Vicente Garza, Bethany (Jonathan) Morse, Amelia Hardcastle, Catherine Hardcastle, Ezra Perez, Matthew Perez, and Catalina Perez. Eight great-grandchildren: Jaime Garza III, Joseph Garza, Emalyn Wallis, Eloise Fitzgerald, Olivia Garza, Audrey Fitzgerald, Uriah Wallis, and Autumn Fitzgerald.
Visitation will be on February 10, 2022, from 4:30 pm to 7:00 pm, followed by rosary service at the Memory Gardens Funeral Home (8200 Old Brownsville Rd, Corpus Christi, TX 78415). At 11:30 am, February 11, 2022, a mass service will be held at Our Lady of Perpetual Help (5830 Williams Dr, Corpus Christi, TX 78412), followed by burial at Memory Gardens Cemetery.
