Filiberto Alvarez

Filiberto “Don Gil” Alvarez, 93, passed away on December 17, 2011. He was born on June 17,1918 in Brownsville, Texas to Carmen Alvarez. Filiberto was a very kind man who loved God and his family. He was a very hard worker and provider for his family both immediate and extended. He was always ready to lend a hand to those that needed it. He never thought twice about helping others out. He worked and retired from the City of Corpus Christi’s Sanitation department. He loved spending time drawing, painting, woodworking, and spending time outdoors.

He is preceded in death by his loving wife Lorenza Maciel Alvarez, Sons, Juan Manuel Maciel and Juan Hernandez, Mother, Carmen Alvarez Meza, Brother, Esteban Meza, sisters Serafina Meza and Jularia Cadengo. Grandchildren Gracie Hernandez Taylor, Oscar Hernandez, Daniel Villarreal, and Juan Villarreal.

He is survived by His loving children, Ann Marie Mota (Jose Guadalupe), Yolanda Soliz (Robert) of Corpus Christi, Juan Manuel Hernandez (Consuelo) of Gregory, Texas. 3 bothers Adan Meza (Maria) of Jacksonville, Texas. Luis Meza(Solia) and Antonio Meza of San Benito, Texas and 3 sisters, Ester Meza of San Benito, Texas, Beatrice Salazar of Jacksonville, Texas and Eva Longoria of La Mesa, Texas. One brother – in – law, Nestor Maciel of Austin, Texas.

Filiberto had 22 grand children. 30 great grandchildren, and 35 great great grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews.

The family will be receiving friends on Wednesday, December 21, 2011, at Funeraria del Angel, 549 Cheyenne from 3:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m., with a Holy Rosary to be recited at 7:00 p.m., that same evening. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Thursday December 22, 2011, at 1pm at Our Lady of Pilar Catholic Church. Burial to follow at Memory Gardens.

“Grandpa left us with so many great memories that we will cherish always within our hearts. He has gone to heaven to reunite with our grandma Lorenza and with our Savior Jesus Christ. Thank you for all that you have taught us during your life time here on earth.”
