Filomena was born on July 5, 1932 in San Isidro Mazetepec, Jalisco, Mexico to Eugenio and Maria Lopez. At the age of 18 she married Javier Andrade and moved to the United States where she eventually became a U.S. Citizen.
She taught CCD at Our Lady of the Pillar and Holy Family Catholic church for many years while raising her children. She along with her husband were early founder pioneers of both churches. She was a cook at Holy Family Elementary and then at Incarnate Word Academy School and Convent where she retired after 40 years. She was a Guadalupana at Holy Family Church for many years. Her and her husband were devout Catholics who instilled those values onto their children. As her children had their own children her grandchildren nicknamed her “Mami Andrade”. Her and Javier had a small ranch which they would go to on the weekends and with her children and grandkids. She never gave up an opportunity to travel with her adult children to visit many places she had never been to before. While visiting Disney Land in California and Colorado you could not tell if she was the adult or the kid and she could spend all day playing the penny slots in Las Vegas. She enjoyed cooking and making her delicious tamales during the holidays. She loved tending to her beautiful flower garden and going to Zumba with Mary Lou. As her health started declining over the years she would always remind her kids and grandchildren to bring her Lottery scratch-offs to keep herself busy. If she won a few dollars she was very happy. Even though she was in a wheelchair she always looked forward to going out on the weekends to different restaurants (having her Margaritas) and visiting her children Blanche and David in Houston.
Filomena is pre-deceased by her parents; her husband Javier Andrade, daughters Mary Helen Andrade, Leticia Lopez, Blanche Soliz, Rosie Narvaez and sons David Andrade and Michael Andrade; siblings Lonjino Lopez and Francisco Lopez.
Filomena is survived by daughter Mary Lou (Robert) Cruz of Corpus Christi, son Javier Andrade and daughter Alice (Richard) Atkinson. Siblings Jose Lopez, Antonio Lopez, Catalina and Jesus Rubio of Mexico. She is also survived by 12 grandchildren and 13 great grandchildren. She loved all her grandchildren, especially Jennifer Napier (Kevin), Kimberly Cruz Sanchez (Erik), and Robert Christopher Cruz (Liz) who were always at her side growing up. Her light was her Great-Grandson Christopher Wayne Cruz whom she called Mi Rey Chiquito (My Little King) and looked forward to seeing him on weekends and also receiving pictures of Great-Grandson Andy from Houston.
The family would like to thank Dr. Ronald Stevens, Dr. Italiya, Nurses Jackie Hatfield and Michelle Evans, Compassus Hospice. Many thanks and love to Anahi Rodriguez her care-giver for 15 years whom she loved as her daughter along with Anahi’s daughters who also knew her as their Mami Andrade.
She will be missed but will never be forgotten and will be in our hearts forever.
