(June 11, 1941 - June 21, 2021)
Florencio Heras passed away on June 21, 2021, surrounded by family at Spohn Hospital in Corpus Christi, TX.
He was born to Concepcion and Diego Heras, Sr. on June 11, 1941.
Childhood memories were forged by his brothers and loving cousins. A tight-knit family made for a joyful, carefree life in the small town of Benavides.
Adulthood brought the family together every Saturday night. Brothers and dad fired up the pit, enjoyed cold brews and conversations late into the evening, creating an unbreakable bond.
After proudly serving his country, Florencio wed his Earth angel, Umbelina Saenz. This union blessed them with a daughter, Cynthia Anna, and a son, Estevan Rene, who was in this world seven days before departing. Life endures, and Florencio was a wonderful husband and father. He was always available, generous, dependable, humorous, protective, and loving. Florencio always wanted the best for his family and diligently worked at CC Army Depot. He acquired lifelong friendships with many of his co-workers and was greatly respected.
Upon retirement, he and Umbelina returned to Benavides. They built their last home and enjoyed the simple pleasures in life. Florencio gained much joy and laughter with his granddaughter, Annabella Fina. She rejuvenated his world and brightened his days. He was very proud of the young woman she has now become. He felt closest to God when outdoors in nature. He never wanted to miss a sunset or sunrise. You could always find him on his riding mower, tending his land to perfection, or on his porch swing listening to music, reading, and completing crossword puzzles. He transformed a seemingly basic shed into an office that served as a sanctuary and memorial to all he treasured. Memorabilia and photos of family and friends, many long gone, are neatly displayed. The happy memories they carry were always fresh in his heart.
Florencio is predeceased by his parents, Concepcion and Diego Heras, Sr.; brother, Diego Jr. (Lydia A.) Heras and a son, Estevan Rene.
Survivors include his devoted wife of 51 years, Umbelina Heras of Benavides, TX; daughter, Cynthia (Isaac) Garza of Corpus Christi, TX.; granddaughter, Annabella Sanchez; brother, Luis Roberto (Lina) Heras of Benavides, TX.; beloved sister, Leonor (Jesus) Bazan of Corpus Christi, TX. and a host of nieces and nephews.
It broke our hearts to lose you, but you didn't go alone,
for part of us went with you the day God called you home.
Services will be 10 a.m, Monday, July 5, 2021, at Coastal Bend Veterans Cemetery, IH-37 in Corpus Christi, TX.
