Our wonderful Aunt Frances was called to His home on April 16, 2014. She was born on October 10, 1921 to Julian and San Juana Cabrera and was named Francisca. As soon as she could she learned to respond to Frances. She was educated in the Corpus Christi Independent School District and attended Catholic School for their afterschool programs. She was a checker for Biel’s Grocery Stores as well as H.E.B. and the Handy Andy stores. She bowled for many years and loved to sew. She was an original doll maker and would make many different styles and sizes of dolls. One time she made a huge doll, large enough for her niece to fall in love with the doll and use it as a dancing partner. Frances also enjoyed making different types of food, including pecan pralines and chorizo. She quit her job to take care of her mother, who had crippling arthritis, and she always made sure that her mother’s sleeping position was changed every two hours. Frances was preceded in death by her mother San Juana P. Casas, her brother Seferino Cabrera, and her other brother Simon Casas. She is survived by her older sister Maria Cabrera Cantú of Brownsville, her younger sister Aurora Casas Flores of Orange Grove, and her brother Perfecto Noe (Dalia) Casas of Corpus Christi. She is also survived by her niece and guardian Alda (David) Muñoz of Corpus Christi, as well as many extended family members. On behalf of Frances, the family would like to thank everyone at Trisun Care Center-River Ridge Nursing Home for caring for her in the last years of her life.
Honoring her as pallbearers will be Michael Cantu, Abel Cerda, Tomás Garza, Romeo Garcia, William David Luis, and Marc W. Muñoz, Sr. A rosary will be recited at 7:00 p.m. on Monday, April 21 at Funeraria Del Angel-Memorial Holly Funeral Home. Mass will be celebrated at 10:00 a.m., Tuesday, April 22, at Saint Joseph’s Catholic Church. Burial will follow at Rose Hill Memorial Park.
