With profound sorrow — and immense gratitude for a life beautifully lived — we announce the passing of Francisco Javier Eguia Sr., 78, of Corpus Christi, Texas, who entered eternal rest on February 22, 2026.
Born on December 3, 1947, in Weslaco, Texas, to José P. Eguia and Juana Maria Carrillo, Francisco was a man forged in faith, family, and fierce devotion. A proud graduate of Roy Miller High School, Class of 1967, he answered the call to serve his country that very year, joining the United States Army and serving honorably until 1970. His discipline, strength, and patriotism would define him for the rest of his life.
After his service, he pursued higher education at Alvin Community College, earning his Associate’s Degree in 1980 — a testament to his lifelong belief in growth, learning, and perseverance.
On October 22, 1971, he married the love of his life, Ofelia Rosales. Together, they built a home in Corpus Christi filled with laughter, resilience, and unwavering love. For over five decades, their marriage stood as a shining example of commitment and partnership. Together they raised three children, instilling in them the values of hard work, loyalty, and faith.
Affectionately known as “Mr. E.,” Francisco was a respected Senior Drafting Designer before dedicating over six years as an educator at John F. Kennedy Elementary. He was more than a teacher — he was a mentor, a steady presence, and a quiet hero in the lives of many young people.
Francisco had a deep love for music of all kinds, spirited sports debates, and — most of all — family gatherings. Holidays, birthdays, backyard conversations — these were his championship moments. His laughter filled rooms. His advice guided generations. His presence was commanding yet comforting.
He leaves behind his beloved wife, Ofelia R. Eguia; his children Candi M. Lara (José Valerio), Francisco J. Eguia II, and John D. Eguia (Noemi Eguia). He also leaves to cherish his memory Maria Guadalupe Eguia, Juan J. Eguia (Linda Eguia), Armando Cedillo, and all his nieces and nephews.
His legacy continues through his nine grandchildren: Brian Eguia-Martinez (Vicky Eguia-Martinez), Isaac Lara, Kayla Valerio, Francisco J. Eguia III, Aracely Eguia, José L. Eguia, John D. Eguia Jr., Jovanni D. Eguia, and Jacob D. Eguia — and his three great-grandchildren: Lucas B. Eguia-Martinez, Logan G. Eguia-Martinez, and Lorenzo C. Eguia-Martinez.
He was preceded in death by his parents, José P. Eguia and Juana Maria Eguia, and his beloved sisters, Gloria Valdez and Yolanda Cantu — who no doubt welcomed him home with open arms.
Pallbearers honoring his legacy will be: Francisco J. Eguia II, Francisco J. Eguia III, José L. Eguia, John D. Eguia, John D. Eguia Jr., Brian Eguia-Martinez, and Joe Rangel.
Honorary services will be held on March 1, 2026, from 5:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m., with a rosary at 7:00 p.m., at Del Angel Funeral Home. Burial will follow on March 2, 2026, at Memory Gardens Cemetery.
The family extends their deepest gratitude to all who have offered prayers, comfort, and support during this difficult time.
Francisco’s story does not end here. It lives on in every lesson he taught, every sacrifice he made, every embrace he gave, and every generation that carries his name forward.
A soldier. A husband. A father. A grandfather. A mentor. A legacy.
