He was born March 24, 1937 in Brownsville, Texas to the late Fidel Casas and Constancia Negrete.
Gabriel worked 35 years for PPG American Chrome & Chemical Elements. Our father taught us about hard work and goals. He taught us to work with our hands and to put our hearts in it. He was a role model to his sons and daughters, and a mentor to his grandchildren. He was a sportsman and wonderful dancer. He was a carpenter, a mechanic, and a welder. He was truly blessed with manly skills. The Pittsburgh Steelers are now minus their #1 fan.
Gabriel leaves behind his family to cherish his memories, his loving and devoted wife of 53 years, Hortencia P. Casas; seven children, Javier (Zenona) Casas, Juan Gabriel (Laura) Casas Jr., Jesus Enrique (Brinda) Rojas, Ernesto (Diana) Rojas, Juanita (Robert Cookson) Rojas, Evangelina Rojas Morris and Esther Casas all of Corpus Christi, Texas; eleven grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren. He also leaves behind numerous nephews, nieces, cousins, a host of friends, and his faithful dog Big Ben Casas.
Visitation will be held on Thursday, March 15, 2012 from 5:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. at Memory Gardens Funeral Home with a Holy Rosary to be recited at 7:00 p.m. that same evening.
