Gary graduated from Roy Miller High School in 1987. During his younger years, he played football as a linebacker at Southern Texas. He later pursued a successful career in the Oil & Gas Industry and worked as a Project Manager for Brand Safway.
Gary was married to Carol Hernandez, his loving spouse of 18 years. Together, they built a life filled with laughter, family, and strong memories.
He had a deep love for life and enjoyed playing darts, watching football and other sports, BBQing, relaxing with loved ones, and proudly supporting his favorite teams, the Dallas Cowboys and San Antonio Spurs. He also enjoyed reading, online shopping, and simply unwinding with a drink after a long day.
Gary was known for his protective nature, his sense of humor, and his unforgettable personality. He brought joy to those around him and could always be counted on for a laugh, or to fire up the smoker and make his famous brisket. Carol’s favorite memory is waiting for him to get home from work, always with a drink ready as he stepped out of the shower.
Gary is preceded in death by loved ones who welcomed him into eternal rest.
He is survived by his beloved mother, Bertha Delacruz; his children, Gracie Russell, Elizabeth Martinez, Alyssa Russell, Gary Russell, Eric Russell, and Chris Lopez; stepchildren, Maggie Hernandez, Jonathan Hernandez (Justine), Jazzabelle Villarreal (Dominic), and KC Villarreal; siblings, Wilber Russell (Lindy), Johnny (Lorissa), Curtis Benes (Liza), and Linda Benes; as well as numerous cherished grandchildren, nieces, and nephews.
We would like to give a special thanks to everyone for joining us in this celebration of life for Gary Russell. Your presence, prayers, and love are greatly appreciated.
