

She was born to Paul and Ella M. Scheele Knuepper on December 13, 1933. She attended St. Gerards Catholic School in San Antonio and graduated in 1951. She married Jesse E. Simmons on June 21, 1951. She worked for Lloyd Electric Company in San Antonio, Texas for several years. She retired from Stewart Title in Corpus Christi, Texas. She was a life- long devout Catholic whom loved and cared deeply for family. She was an Elvis fan from the beginning of his career until the date of her death. Gatian was always generous and kind to others despite her hardships. She enjoyed all types of music and enjoyed playing the piano.
She is preceded in death by her mother and father; brother, Urban Knuepper; brother-in-law, Frank Forester.
She is survived by her four sons, Jesse Wayne (Mary Esther) Simmons, Bryan David (Peggy) Simmons, Kenneth Noel (Taffy) Simmons, and Daniel Paul (Pat) Simmons; nine grandchildren; and 1 great-grand daughter; brother, Alton (Latrice) Knuepper; sister, Frances Knuepper Forester; nieces and nephews; and sister-in-law, Lucille Knuepper.
Pallbearers will be her six grandsons; Joshua Simmons, Austin Simmons, Ryker Simmons, Christopher Pintor, Zackery Pintor and Chris Simmons. Honorary Pallbearers will be Amanda Simmons, Jacquelyn Sumner and Tabitha Simmons.
A rosary will be recited at 1:00 p.m., Wednesday, March 2, 2011 at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church in Selma, Texas. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 2:00 p.m. the same day. Interment will follow at Selma Catholic Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the American Cancer Society, specifically, pancreatic cancer.
