

Gilbert is preceded in death by his beloved wife of 45 years, Guadalupe G. Cantu; his parents, Armando and Soledad Cantu; sisters, Guadalupe Morales, Rosario Martinez, and Celia Hernandez; brothers, Armando Cantu Jr. and Alfredo Cantu.
Gilbert is survived by his children, Luis A. Cantu (two daughters), Mary Ann Gonzalez (Willie and two sons), Anna Marie Flores (John [deceased] son and daughter), Joel G. Cantu, Mark Sylvester Cantu, Isabel Titler (Richard, two sons and two daughters), and Mary Helen Adams (Juan, four daughters),and Julian Gerald Thomas (four sons and one daughter); sisters, Ramona Garza, Olga Morales (Manuel), and Oralia Guevara.
Gilbert attended classes at London ISD and spent his adult life as owning and managing a trucking business. His hobbies included tending to his ranch, drag racing his souped up muscle cars, playing card games, and could often be found with an accordion or a guitar in his hands singing along to his favorite Spanish music (Tejano music) during family gatherings with a cigar or pipe nearby. He spent his remaining years cracking jokes with his children, grandchildren, great grandchildren, and great, great grandchildren. He will be remembered as a hardworking, generous man, always willing to give whatever he had for his family.
Visitation will be held from 5 PM until 9 PM on Tuesday, November 21, 2023, at Memory Gardens Funeral Home, where a Holy Rosary will be recited that same night at 7 PM. A Celebration of Life will occur at 10 AM on Wednesday, November 22, 2023, at Memory Gardens Funeral Home. Interment will follow at Memory Gardens Cemetery.
