
Gilbert was born to Jacob S. Fernandez and Augustina R. Fernandez, April 4, 1948, in Corpus Christi, Texas. He graduated from Roy Miller High School in 1967. He married Elisa Martinez Fernandez in 1998, and they lived together in Corpus Christi, Texas.
He was preceded in death by one brother, Jacobo Fernandez, Jr.; three sisters, Mary Morcno, Guadalupe Curiel and San Juanita Fernandez; one son, Gilbert Fernandez; four daughters, Elisa Patlan, Rosa Ana Fernandez, Irene Hinojosa and Ida Cuellar; one step daughter, Patricia Padron; one step son, Conrado Garcia; eighteen grandchildren; twenty-seven great grandchildren; three step grandchildren.
Gilbert worked as a millwright machinist for CCAD for 43 years. His passions included cars, helicopters, fishing, and music. Gilbert approached projects with an engineering mindset and a mechanic’s touch. The family would like to thank Gilbert for generously sharing his knowledge and shaping who we are today.
A visitation for Gilbert will be held Tuesday, October 14, 2025 from 5:00 PM to 9:00 PM at Memory Gardens Funeral Home, 8200 Old Brownsville Road, Corpus Christi, Texas 78415. A rosary will occur Tuesday, October 14, 2025 from 7:00 PM to 7:30 PM, 8200 Old Brownsville Road, Corpus Christi, Texas 78415. A funeral service will occur Wednesday, October 15, 2025 from 1:00 PM to 2:00 PM, 8200 Old Brownsville Road, Corpus Christi, Texas 78415. A committal will occur Wednesday, October 15, 2025 from 2:00 PM to 3:00 PM at Memory Gardens Cemetery, 8200 Old Brownsville Road, Corpus Christi, Texas 78415.
