With heavy hearts and profound sadness, we announce the passing of our beloved father, husband, grandfather, brother, uncle and friend, Gilberto C. Bernal, Sr., who entered eternal rest on October 5, 2026, surrounded by love.
Gilberto was born on January 11, 1952, in Corpus Christi, Tx, to Marcelino Bernal, Sr., and Aurora Conde Bernal.
He is survived by his beloved wife, Rebecca A. Bernal, children, Gibo Bernal, America B. Garza (Mike Garza) and Krystal B. Cruz (Adam Cruz), and grandchildren, Ava J. Garza and Dylan A. Cruz. Sisters, Elia Bernal and Gloria Cabrera (Manuel Cabrera) and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Marcelino Bernal, Sr., and Aurora C. Bernal, sisters, Gertrudis Tijerina, Mercedes Garcia and brother, Marcelino Bernal, Jr.
Gilberto worked as a meat market manager for HEB for 42 years. After retiring from HEB, he shifted his focus to the investment world. One of his proud accomplishments was becoming a Level 3 option trader in the stock market reflecting his knowledge, determination, and interest in the world of investing.
Gilberto enjoyed hunting, fishing, barbecuing, and traveling to the mountains. He was a man who loved the Lord and served as an usher at Corpus Christi Christian Fellowship Church. He was engaged in multiple ministries such as the Nehemiah task force, deer ministry, and was the head cook for the church family day picnics.
A devoted family man, Gilberto treasured the time he spent with his loved ones. He was a hardworking, intelligent, and loving man who dedicated his life to his family and those he held dear. He was known for his strong work ethic, wisdom, and wonderful sense of humor. No matter the occasion, Gilberto had a special way of making those around him laugh, bringing joy to any room he entered. He found happiness in life’s simplest moments and leaves behind countless cherished memories that his family will forever hold close to their hearts.
Visitation will be held at Memory Gardens Funeral Home, 8200 Old Brownsville Road, Corpus Christi, TX 78415, US, on October 13, 2026, from 5:00 pm to 9:00 pm, with a Prayer Service there the same day from 7:00 pm to 8:00 pm.
A Funeral Service will take place at Memory Gardens Funeral Home on October 14, 2026, from 10:00 am to 11:00 am, followed by Entombment there from 11:00 am to 11:30 am.
