

He began his career with Billy Pugh Yacht Services and then went on to work for the City of Corpus Christi where he retired after 33 years as a Marina Patrol.
His love for music that started at a young age was important to him but the love for his family and providing for them was always first and foremost. He lived to spend time with his family and loved to tell jokes and make people laugh while drinking a beer or two.
He was a very knowledgeable sports fan whose favorite teams were the New York & San Francisco Giants.
Gilbert was preceded in death by his parents, Jesus and Geronima Martinez; daughters, Lucy Lynn and Liza; brothers, Francisco and Dario; sisters, Anita Torres, Mary Malacara, and Gloria Martinez; great grandchildren, Cayden Ryan Naranjo, and Alek Xander Martinez.
He is survived by his beloved wife Beatrice, who he was a loving husband for 62 years, and also surviving him are his children, Linda Ann Jaimes (Guadalupe), Francisco (Josie), Leticia Martinez-Rangel (Roger), Laura M. Valdez (Ruben), Lydia M. Trevino (Roy) from McAllen, Texas, Edwardo, Jesus Alberto (Alma), and Cecilia Metoyer from Canada, (Who he considered his daughter), his brother, Avelio Ortiz (Lilia) Portland, TX, his sisters from Indiana, Dolores Martinez (Fabian) and Dora Guerrero (Robert Martinez); 18 grandchildren, and 29 great grandchildren.
A visitation will be held on Thursday, April 7, 2016 at Funeraria del Angel, 549 Cheyenne, from 5:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. with a Rosary to be recited at 7:00 p.m.
A Funeral Service will be held on Friday, April 8, 2016 at Holy Family Catholic Church at 10:00 a.m. with interment to follow at Memory Gardens Cemetery.
