

Gladys Norvell Moore Williams, was born on September 4, 1914, the third child of nine to Walter and Ina Moore in Nixon, Texas. She finished school in Nixon, Texas and later moved to Corpus in the late 1930’s. She had aspiring dreams to be a business owner and received her Cosmetologists’ License from the Madam C.J. Walker Beauty School in Houston, Texas. Upon graduation she worked as a stylist in several shops in Oakland, California and in San Antonio, Texas before opening her own salon in Corpus Christi, Texas. She was the proud owner of the Blue Rose Beauty Salon for 54 years with her original operator and cherished friend Mildred Douglas. She was a faithful member and past president of the Corpus Christi Cosmetologists’ League.
She received Christ at an early age and attended St. Matthew Missionary Baptist Church. She later joined St. John Baptist Church where she was an active and faithful member for over 50 years. She thoroughly enjoyed Training Union, Mission Circle, Sunday School, and all areas in which she served. She was a beacon of light as she faithfully went about doing Gods work. While being cared for by her Houston family she united with the Missouri City Baptist Church where she worshiped and witnessed until the end.
Mother was called from labor to reward on January 2nd, 2011.
She was preceded in death by her parents, and her children: Imogene H. Jones and Robert L. Dennis, her husband, Russell Williams, brothers: Dr. Ira A. Moore, Walter R. Moore, Jr., Wilbur C. Moore, and Harold G. Moore, sisters: Ruth Brewer, Annie Brown, Helen McCormick, and Doris Johnston.
She leaves to rejoice in her memory her three grandchildren: Clifford G. Jones (Mitzi), Ina J. Jones-Gill, Curtis D. Jones (Deb): six great grandsons and seven great-great grandchildren, sister-in-laws, Bernice Moore and Etta Moore, devoted niece, Evelyn Wright (Charles), five generations of nieces and nephews and a host of extended family.
Visitation will be held from 5:00 until 8:00 p.m., Friday, January 7, 2011 at Cage-Mills Funeral Directors, 4901 Everhart Road. Funeral services will be conducted at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, January 8, 2011 at St. John Baptist Church, 5445 Greenwood Drive with interment to follow at Memory Gardens Cemetery.
