

Glen Whitson Estes Jr., age 88, passed away on July 13, 2016. He was born on March 6, 1928 in Shreveport, La., the 7th of Glen and Myrtle (Rose) Estes’ eleven children. He grew up in Mirando City, TX and served in the Army with tours in Korea and Japan. After completing his service, he started his construction career with Jamar-Olmen working at sites in 42 states. With his family growing, he settled in to the Corpus Christi area living for many years in Driscoll, TX while working for Gulf Iron Works and eventually retiring while at the Refinery Terminal Fire Company. He was a member of the Boilermakers/Ironworkers, and in retirement worked part time at REPCON. Glen was an avid hunter and fisherman, a passion he passed on to his sons. He was preceded in death by a daughter, Glenda Boone and a son, Johnny Estes. Glen is survived by three sons, Glen (Linda), James, and Danny (Lisa); a daughter, Jeannie (Mike) Hanus; 9 grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren. He is also survived by two sisters, Mary Ann Cox and Mabel (George) Hendricks. Visitation will be on Sunday, July 17, 2016 from 5:00 pm to 9:00 pm at Memory Gardens Funeral Home, 8200 Old Brownsville Rd, Corpus Christi 78415. Funeral services will be conducted Monday, July 18, 2016 at 10:00 am at Memory Gardens Funeral Home. A private entombment with family will occur following the service at Memory Gardens Mausoleum. Guests are encouraged to wear their favorite hunting or fishing shirt to the service. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the American Cancer Society, or charity of your choice.
