A proud graduate of West Oso High School in the Rosa Acres area, Gloria went on to earn an Associate of Arts degree from Del Mar College. Throughout her life, she wore many hats. Working as a Lab Technician, a Substitute Teacher, and in Public Service, Gloria was always dedicated to helping others in her community.
Gloria was a devoted member of Our Lady of Pilar Catholic Church and found peace in visiting various churches around the area. Her faith was strong, and her spiritual journey was deeply personal.
She had a passion for adventure and loved discovering new places, taking long walks, and riding the B-Line bus around town. Gloria was a true coffee enthusiast. Gloria was known for her infatuation with coffee. She was always in search of a "Good Cup of Coffee", which she believed could brighten any day.
Known for her strong opinions and unfiltered honesty, Gloria’s vibrant personality left a lasting impression on all who knew her. Her laughter was warm and contagious. She had a love for classic films and spent many joyful hours at the historic Ritz Theatre in downtown Corpus Christi.
A talented cook and baker, Gloria was known for her homemade sweet bread and signature dishes, especially her ground beef, egg, and garlic that was made with love and shared with family.
She was preceded in death by her beloved parents, Thomas and Mary C. Barrera, her brothers, George Barrera and Thomas Barrera the 2nd. Gloria leaves behind countless memories that will be treasured by her siblings, Sylvia Martinez, Josie B Carrillo, San Juan Barrera, Rudy Barrera, Robert Barrera, David Barrera, Mark Barrera, Richard Barrera, Joe Barrera and Olga Barrera. She was also survived by numerous nieces and nephews.
Though Gloria has departed from this world, the love she gave, the wisdom she shared, and the joy she brought into the lives of those around her will live on in the hearts of her family and friends. Her spirit, full of strength, warmth, and character, will never be forgotten.
May she rest in eternal peace, reunited with her loved ones, and forever remembered by those who were blessed to know her.
