On December 27, 2012, Our Mighty Lord called upon the beautiful soul of Gloria Reyes Salazar to rest in one of the many rooms prepared for us in heaven, to peacefully rest under His wings for eternity. Gloria was born on September 1, 1941 to Concepcion Perez Reyes and Arturo Orozco Reyes in Corpus Christi, Texas. She spent her childhood and early adult life in Corpus Christi, living in the Navarro area, attending elementary and junior high, and graduated from Roy Miller High School in 1960. During her last year in high school, she met the love of her life, Ernest, who became her husband for the next 49 years. In 1965 she gave birth to her son Ernie and a year later, Corinna. She was an exceptional and caring mother. Mom worked as a paraprofessional aide at Meadowbrook Elementary School for 22 years. In 1982, her husband built a house in Calallen where they shared many moments with her family for 30 years. She retired in 2000 to spend more time with her children and grandchildren, attending every special occasion and event. There was one special person she had always wanted to meet, but please know that she always had you in her thoughts and prayers. In 2011, her husband built another house in Corpus to fulfill mom’s desire to move back here and be closer to her kids and grandkids. We had just spent a wonderful Christmas Day at their house and will always cherish those days. Mom will be greatly missed by all her family and friends.
She leaves behind her husband of 49 years, Ernest Salazar, a son Ernest Salazar, Jr. (Isabel), and a daughter Corinna. She also leaves behind her grandchildren Gabbie, Jake, Chloe, Ian and Lindsey. She also left behind numerous and close family members, best friends and friendly neighbors who were all touched by her loving and caring spirit.
Visitation will be held at Funeraria Del Angel-Memorial Holly on Wednesday, January 2, 2013 from 2:00 to 9:00 pm with a rosary reciting at 7:00 pm. Mass will be held on Thursday, January 3, 2013, 1:00 pm at St. Thomas the Apostle Catholic Church on FM624 (Calallen). Entombment will follow at Memory Gardens Mausoleum on Old Brownsville Road.
