

Gregory Thomas Gladden, 65, passed away on January 22, 2011. He was born July 5, 1945 in Wachapreague, Virginia, to John William Gladden, Sr. and Julia Pruitt Gladden. He was a 1963 graduate of Central High School. Following in the footsteps of his Grandfather “Daddy Tom” and his mentor Earl Parker, at the age of 18, he became the youngest licensed Charter Boat Captain in the Baltimore Maryland District. Greg spent thirty-four years of his life serving his country. He spent four years in the U.S. Army, served in Vietnam from 1967 to 1968, was a detective on the Panama Canal Zone Police Force from 1971 through 1979, and retired as a Senior Special Agent from the U.S. Customs Service. He graduated from Florida State University, the Canal Zone Campus, and received a B.S. Degree in Criminal Justice on March 24, 1973. He was a 32nd Degree Scottish Rite Mason and a Shriner.
He was preceded in death by his parents and his mother-in-law Katherine Nix.
Survivors include his wife of twenty-three years Cathy Nix Gladden of Corpus Christi, Texas; two daughters, Angela (Karl “K.C.”) Griner of Callahan, Florida, Tracy (Chris) Chavez of Tallahassee, Florida; five grandchildren, Victoria, Alexandra, Hailey, Karl Caleb Griner and Noah Chavez; one brother, Jack (Nancy) Gladden, Virginia Beach, Virginia; two nephews, John and Chris Gladden and their families, as well as a host of friends.
Memorial services will be conducted at 2:00 p.m., Thursday, January 27, 2011 at Cage-Mills Funeral Directors Chapel, 4901 Everhart Road with Kenny Eiben officiating.
