Hazel was born in McAllen, Texas August 10, 1942. She married her love, Clifford Dean Mann on September 10, 1960.
At 16, Hazel entered the banking field. Her career followed with a stint as a school bus driver for the Calallen ISD, Camp Shawondasse Manager for the CC Camp Fire Girls council, Director/Co-owner of Small World Childcare Center, Museum Educator at the John Connor museum in Kingsville, and ultimately, Community Outreach Coordinator/PR & Communications specialist in the office of Public Affairs at the NASA Johnson Space Center.
Hazel received her GED in 1968. Graduated Del Mar College, Associates degree in Sociology. Corpus Christi State University, Bachelor’s degree in Sociology, 1993, and ultimately earned credentials to teach Life and Earth Science at the secondary level.
She was named to the Del Mar Hall of Fame, Who’s Who in Jr. Colleges, and is a life member of Alpha Kappa Delta. In later years, she became a member of the Rockport Writer’s club.
Hazel had a passion for writing, was a wonderful story-teller, and is a two-book, published co-author with her cousin Phil. She loved the outdoors, camping, archeology, travel, painting, art, music, and of course, family - including her husband of almost 60 years, Clifford, two daughters Dena Mann, Victoria Mann-Hawthorne, son-in-law Todd, and extended family and friends.
To celebrate Hazel, the family requests a raising of a libation of your choice (Hazel’s favorites were margaritas, white zinfandel, and Ziegenbach beer) and play “Dust in the Wind” by Kansas.
