

He attended W.B Ray High School, earned his GED and enlisted in the Army where he served his country during wartime from 1953-1956 in Korea.
After his military service, Hector worked for the U.S. Postal Service delivering mail to S. H. Kress Department Store, where he met a beautiful and fashionable clerk named Emilia Coronado. They were married on December 6, 1958 and together they raised three children. They celebrated 61 years together in matrimony until her passing on October 16, 2020.
Hector worked as a machinist for 25 years at the Corpus Christi Army Depot.
He enjoyed coaching baseball at Central Park Little League for many years (1973-1980) and had many successful championship seasons. At the conclusion of each season, “Coach Tovar” rewarded his players with huge barbecues at West Guth park and once, a trip to Astroworld.
Hector was a member of the Veterans of Foreign War (VFW) Post #2397 and volunteered his time as a member of the Honor Guard and at the VA Hospital, making sandwiches to offer to disabled veterans as they waited for their appointments.
Hector was a resident of Garden Estates Retirement Home and enjoyed playing Bingo, trivia, and visiting with all his friends at the “Smoking Shack”. He was selected as a “Silver Star” resident and was highlighted in their monthly newsletter. His many caregivers were like family to him and he loved them all dearly.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Emily; his parents, Ventura Tovar and Maria Luisa Matta; his brother, Ventura Alonzo Tovar; sister, Lydia Elliff; nephew, Victor Tovar; and granddaughters, Erica Lynn Tovar and Dominique Cushman.
He is survived by his two sons, Hector Tovar Jr. (Gaylyn), and Eric Tovar (Valerie); one daughter, Michelle Perkins (Jimmy); seven grandchildren, Britney, Tara, Daniel, Jay, Kristina, Sabine, and Ethan; six great-grandchildren, Naveah, Ary’ianah, Savannah’aa, Leighton Grey, Penelope, and Carson; brothers, Raul Tovar (Margaret), and Jesse Tovar; one sister, Esveidi Zamorano (Roland); sisters-in-law, Rosa Tovar, and Natalia Longoria; and many nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews.
Visitation will be held from 5:00-7:00 p.m. on April 27,2023 at Memory Gardens Funeral Home, with a Holy Rosary at 7:00 p.m. Graveside Services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on April 28, 2023 at Coastal Bend Veterans Memorial Cemetery, 9974 I37, Corpus Christi, Texas.
