Born August 8, 1939, in Basile, Louisiana to a big family of 11. Herman graduated from Basile High School and decided that military service was where he wanted to start his life journey. His choice was the Navy where he spent 24 years being stationed at various ports of call to his last duty assignment, Naval Air Station of Corpus Christi, Texas. Here he met Lucille and they decided to join their lives together for 37 years.
Herman was a great father to Pete and Patricia. He was a great listener and guided us all in our lives along the way. His accomplishments in life were many and enjoyed bowling, playing bingo, and going to Mississippi to try his luck at the one-armed bandit, slot machines.
After retirement he worked for Poole Oil Company and then went to a Civil Service job at the base for 20 years. During those years family was important to him. He and Lucy traveled to many family functions in Louisiana and Mississippi, his and Lucy’s family reunions, and family events. His high school graduating class always had a class reunion that he had participated in as much as possible.
As the grandchildren were born, he became a proud Papaw to them all. Nicholas, Kayla, Taylor, Maddie, Isabella, McKinley, Taylor R. and Oliver could not have had a better friend. As they all grew, when someone brought a special friend, girlfriends or boyfriends into the family they became special to him and Lucy and were considered a grandchild also. He wanted to know that they were happy, loved and respected for who they are.
Herman loved to watch sports of all kinds, and cook for the family, especially BBQ on his old school charcoal grill. Many holidays were enjoyed around a great meal and family traditions that will continue and always be remembered with love and smiles.
Herman was greatly loved and will be missed by many. We will always carry him in our hearts and thoughts with smiles and great memories.
Rest in Peace Papaw we love you!
