Herman Gutierrez Jr., 70, passed away on July 31, 2026. Born in Corpus Christi, Texas, on October 1, 1955, Herman graduated from W.B. Ray High School and later received a degree from The Art Institute.
Herman built a life shaped by craft, discipline, and steady purpose. He pursued a career in Graphic Design, bringing an artist’s eye and a professional’s care to his work. He also served in the US Army, and over the years his path carried him from military service to corporate roles and ultimately to his own business, Gutierrez Creative. Most recently, he worked for 11 years at Mardels Christian and Education Store.
Outside of work, Herman found peace and meaning in the open air and open road. He enjoyed the outdoors, loved animals, and often fed strays and wildlife. He went hiking, traveled on his motorcycle, and counted the beach among his favorite places. His curiosity and independence also led him on several scuba diving adventures, never hesitant to set out and discover something new—sometimes entirely on his own.
Herman’s interests reflected a lively mind and a distinctive style. He was a collector of many things—hats, cigars, binoculars, and knives—and he enjoyed listening to music and going to local concerts. Stylish in the way many artists are, he also had a signature cartoon dog he always drew, a familiar mark of his creativity. He loved talking about business, and he carried himself with a self-directed confidence that remained a defining part of his legacy.
He was active with the Shadow Riders Club and often joined the US VA Roundtable.
Herman was preceded in death by his mother, Guadalupe Gutierrez; his father, Herman Gutierrez Sr.; his brother-in-law, Jose Treviño; and several great aunts and uncles.
He is survived by his daughter, Michele Summa, and her husband, David Summa; brothers Larry (Deborah) Gutierrez, Robert (Angie) Gutierrez, and Ernesto Gutierrez; sisters Beatrice Treviño and Patsy Aguilar; numerous nieces and nephews; grandchildren Sadie (Ryan) Garcia, Dylan Summa, and Kaylin Summa; and great-grandchildren Rylynn Garcia and Sakura Summa.
