

Hilda Mae Carter was called home on June 9, 2024, at the age of 83, to be with Her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.
Hilda was born on February 7, 1941, in Palmetto, Louisiana, to William and Madeline (William) Mazone along with her twin sister Wilda.
Hilda was christened as a Catholic on May 11, 1941. While she was living with her uncle Walter and Aunt Leola Mazone in Beaumont, Texas, she was baptized at a local Baptist Church in Beaumont, Texas.
In 1957, Hilda moved to Corpus Christi, Texas, with relatives that were residing in Corpus Christi, along with her twin sister Wilda.
As the years passed, Hilda was united in marriage to Lee Perry for a short time. On March 26, 1969, she was united in marriage to Kirven “PoPo” Carter and was blessed with a blended family of five more children to add with her four children. Years later after Kirven’s (PoPo) death, she was united in marriage to Jimmy Miller until his death.
Over the years, Hilda worked various occupations and locations in Corpus Christi, before retiring from Holiday Inn Emerald Beach.
Hilda was an avid fisherman in freshwater and saltwater day or night. She was an outstanding cook in creole and soul food dishes as taught by her mother, Madeline, while growing up in Louisiana. Some of her favorite dishes that were enjoyed by many were gumbo, dirty rice, deer meat, rabbit, greens, beans, cornbread dressing, crawfish or shrimp etoufee, chitterlings, chili beans, and sweet potatoes. She was a great baker of cakes, sweet potato pies, and tea cakes. Hilda was also an avid gardener. Hilda also had a green thumb, while she was growing her okra, mustard greens, collard greens, and many other vegetables.
Hilda never met a stranger. She loved helping people, no matter what it was day or night. She was a friend, and grandmother to many. She was a kind and generous loving person and a dedicated Christian that knew the Lord.
Hilda was born into a family of 15 siblings. She is preceded in death by her parents, William and Madeline Mazone; eight siblings, Josephine Taylor, Alice C. Nolan, Joseph Mazone, William Mazone Jr., Phillip Mazone, Cornelias McKnight, Eloaise Miller, and Walter R. Mazone; three sons, Curtis Perry, Theodore Carter, and Freddie James Carter; two daughters, Katherine Hopkins and Dell Silmon; five grandchildren, La Treish Sha’Nelle Brown, Justin Rennard Mazone, Denise Carter Hopkins, Kirven Hopkins, and Jacqueline Carter-Mills.
Those left to cherish Hilda’s memories are her children, Kenneth L. Mazone, Linda J. Mazone, La Sherryon A. Brown, and Ozella Griffen; siblings, Chester (Linda) Mazone, Wilda Flemmings, Peter (Mary Lee) Mazone, Annie (Warren) Romar, Rose (John) Dumes, and Juanita Edwards; 20 grandchildren; 30 great-grandchildren; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
Family will be receiving friends from 5 PM until 8 PM on Friday, June 28, 2024, at Memory Gardens Funeral Home. A Celebration of Life will begin at 1 PM on Saturday, June 29, 2024 at Rising Star Baptist Church. Interment will follow at Memory Gardens Cemetery.
