Hilda was born on September 23, 1927, in Corpus Christi, Texas, to Francisco and Olympia Longoria Vasquez. A proud graduate of Corpus Christi High School, Class of 1945, she carried her strength, determination, and unmistakable spirit with her throughout her life.
On October 25, 1947, she married the love of her life, Luis Uballe. Together, they built a home and family, and their marriage lasted until Luis’s death in 1989. While Hilda worked as a child care provider and preschool teacher—nurturing and guiding countless young lives—her most cherished titles were Mom and Grandma. Those roles were not merely names; they were her calling.
Hilda was known for her quick wit, her brutal honesty (whether you were ready for it or not), and her fierce, unwavering love for her family. She had a way of telling it exactly like it was—often with humor—and she expected strength from those she loved because she saw the strength in them first. Her home was a place of warmth, spirited conversations, and unconditional support.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her brothers, Frank Vasquez and Louis Albert Vasquez; her beloved husband, Luis Sr.; her sons, Luis Jr., Gilbert, and Michael; her granddaughter, Jessica; her grandson, Luis III; and her great-great-grandson, Caleb.
She leaves behind a legacy that spans generations. She is survived by her daughters, Patricia, Linda Uballe, and Keisha (Jeremy) Trevino, whom Hilda lovingly raised from age eight as her own daughter. Daughter-in-laws Mary Alice and Mary Uballe. She is also survived by her sons, Ernest (Andie) Uballe and Eugene (Mary) Uballe.
Her grandchildren, Michelle Uballe, Priscilla Uballe, Sandra Davila, Michael De Luna, Albert De Luna, David Uballe, Ernest Jr., Eugene Christopher Uballe, and Brian Uballe, along with numerous great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren, nephews, and nieces, carry forward her stories, her strength, and her unmistakable spirit.
The family extends heartfelt gratitude to Yezeniah Limas and Jennifer Garcia for their devoted care during Hilda’s final days, and to the compassionate nurses of Tribute Palliative and Harbor Hospice, whose kindness and dignity brought comfort.
Hilda's life was all about a love that never wavered. Even though she's no longer with us, her voice, wisdom, and caring spirit will live on in the lives she touched. Her life was a blessing, her memory is something to cherish, and her love is a gift that will always be with us.
