Ira, Sr. enlisted in the Army, and served for 2 years, from 1953-1955, serving in the Korea Conflict. He started working for CPL as a Janitor. The company saw potential in him and recruited him to work on meters. Ira, Sr. had a gift for understanding meters, and was sent to seminars in College Station and Kingsville, Texas. His achievements included building commercial meters for residents, businesses, and schools.
Ira, Sr. transferred to Bay City, TX in 1975 where he continued expanding his knowledge with Central Power & Light Company. He then transferred back to Corpus Christi, Texas eventually retiring from CPL in 1995.
He accepted Jesus Christ at an early age and later became a Deacon at St. John Baptist Church.
He enjoyed bowling and competed in leagues. He also enjoyed dominos, fishing, dancing, tennis, and sports. He also thought he was good at dancing.
Ira, Sr. was a caring/loving father and grandfather. He had a heart of "gold," and truly will be missed.
Ira, Sr. is preceded in death by his father- James T Sanders, Sr., mother-Mattie L. Sanders, brother-James T. Sanders, Jr., sister-Mary Dean Blair, nieces-Dean Adams & Donna Walton.
Survivors include his immediate family: Daughter-Roselyn McGrew, Son-Ira L. Sanders, Jr., Daughter-Dr. Janell Bennett (Ed), Son-Jerry Sanders, Son-Stanley Sanders & Daughter-Rotanza Pearson (Willie). Grandchildren, Tanya McWilliams, Jamey James Levels, Ira (Trey) Sanders III, Lieutenant Ericka Shaw, Sheila Sanders, Byron Roberts. Great-Grandchildren, Great-Great Grandchildren, Nephews, and other relatives & friends.
The family would like to extend their deepest gratitude to the staff of Nurses on Wheels Hospice and The Viera Senior Living Staff, and Jennifer Mross Executive Director. They are truly angels on Earth.

Visitation will be held at Corpus Christi Christian Fellowship Church located at 6602 S. Staples Street in Corpus Christi, Texas on Friday, July 31, 2020 at 11:00 AM with funeral services to follow. Burial will be at Coastal Bend State Veteran’s Cemetery on Friday, July 31, 2020 at 1:00 PM.
