Irene C. Shugard

Irene C. Shugard, 87, passed away peacefully on July 20, 2025. She was born in Corpus Christi, Texas on August 9, 1937, to Rafael and Guadalupe Curiel. Irene graduated from Deming High School in New Mexico in 1956.

Irene married the love of her life, William E. Shugard, and together they built a beautiful life rooted in love, family, and faith. She enjoyed a fulfilling career with Southwestern Bell, where she worked until her retirement in 1990.

Irene was a woman of quiet strength and deep kindness. She loved reading, crocheting, watching old movies, and spending time with her family. Her gentle spirit and warm heart touched all who knew her.

She is preceded in death by her beloved husband, William E. Shugard; her daughter, Sandra D. (Shugard) MacMane; her parents, Rafael and Guadalupe Curiel; and her brothers.

She is survived by her daughters, Lynnie K. (Brent) Schichtel, and Kathleen M. Quesada; sister, Beatrice Curiel; and many cherished grandchildren, who brought her great joy and pride.

Irene’s family wishes to extend their sincerest gratitude to Accent Care and AADI Home Health and Hospice for the compassionate care provided during her final days.

She will be deeply missed and forever remembered by those who loved her.

Public visitation will be held on Tuesday, July 29, 2025, from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., with the Holy Rosary recited at 7:00 p.m. Funeral services will take place on Wednesday, July 30, 2025, at 10:00 a.m., with committal to follow. All services will be held at Memory Gardens Funeral Home and Cemetery, 8200 Old Brownsville Road, Corpus Christi, Texas.
